7 Day Colon Cleanse: Does It Actually Work?

Does it actually work? That’s the common and biggest question a consumer asks when presented with a 7 day colon cleanse. It is a natural reaction if you take into consideration the fact that the purpose of a colon cleanser is to remove waste and feces that have accumulated inside the colon for years. So the question of validity of a colon cleanser that claims to have the power to get rid of unwanted, hardened, waste in the colon sounds like just another advertising hype, or worse, a scam.

Before the question of validity is answered, let us first try and make the distinction between a product or diet that just cleans the gastrointestinal tract but does not remove accumulated waste, and a colon or bowel cleanser.

A fiber rich diet can help regulate, and to a certain extent, prevent the build-up of fecal matter on the walls of the colon.  But there is little help that fiber can do to actually remove the accumulated waste that has already built up. Fiber can only regulate and prevent. This is a common misconception with many colon cleansing products out in the market.

Many of the psyllium based colon cleansing products out there have this effect – they are effective at clearing the colon and relieving constipation issues. This means that it has little effect in trying to remove the hardened fecal matter around the walls of the colon. With that being said, be cautious with any colon cleansing product that has psyllium as its active ingredient.

There are a number of 7 day colon cleanse products that actually do as they claim. They do actually have the power to remove hardened fecal matter in a weeks’ time. The down though is the fact that most of these 7 day colon cleanse use chemicals that are harmful and can cause a number of side effects. Some of these side effects are: damage and even destruction of the intestinal flora, dehydration, and skin problems like acne, and the increased probability of wrinkles.

Intestinal flora is the beneficial bacteria that live inside your digestive tract and your colon. These bacteria are beneficial to our body which can be destroyed with the use of chemical based colon cleansers so finding a cleanser that is natural based such as Bowtrol to use for a 7 day colon cleanse is probably the healthiest. You don’t necessarily want to find a colon cleansing product that claims to generally destroy bacteria and parasites in the colon. While these products can actually get rid of harmful organisms, they may also kill those beneficial bacteria. The destruction of the intestinal flora can lower the colon’s ability to defend itself from harmful bacteria, and can slow down digestion.
