Is Using a Colon Cleanser Really Useful?

The main goal of a colon cleanser is to have the body expel large amounts of (supposedly toxic) waste that is built up on our colon walls. Doing this is claimed to improve the strength of our body. Others have stated that it improves your mental outlook, helps to lose weight, improves our immunity, and the risks of colon cancer can be reduced.

Devil’s Advocate

I wouldn’t be doing any justice in writing about the benefits of colon cleansing without looking at the other side to all of this. Basically, the question is, is it all necessary?

The effects of colon cleansing have been examined in relation to fecal disorders (or the inability to control your bowels), ostomy care (surgery concerning the intestine), colonoscopy spasms, drug withdrawals as well as after certain types of surgery.

In regards to all of these, there has been no extensive research to support the need for a colon cleanser.

Have you ever considered that our daily bowel movements are enough to clear our colon? Does the colon need our help? Lets look at the following to help us decide.

We all have natural bacteria in the colon, which helps to detoxify our food wastes. The liver in our bodies also helps to neutralize any toxins. The mucus membranes in our colon filter out unwanted particles from going back into to the blood and tissue. Every three days, the colon will shed away old cells that prevent a harmful buildup of material. Bowel movements have been shown to vary for each individual—it could be a few times a day to a few times a week. Most calories are absorbed before they enter the large intestine, which disproves the theory that weight loss occurs from the bowel movements that are taken.

Back to the drawing board

Before we can really know which way to go with the colon cleanser—scientists will have to do more extensive studying on this subject matter before we claim this or the other. These above statements have been found in regards to the natural functions of the body; however, is the natural function of the body enough for all the unnatural damage we have done over the years; that’s the main question that should be asked and then studied.
