We are all aware what the function of our colon is: it is the part of your body where waste materials and toxic waste goes through for removal. Colonics, also known as colonic irrigation or hydrotherapy, is the method of waste and toxin removal from the colon. Worms and parasites, dead tissues, and impacted feces, are some of the waste products removed through this procedure.
As a complementary form of therapy, colonics currently has no scientific or medical evidence to back up its effectiveness. Even with this though, many people still think of it as a safe procedure that can help them against back pains, muscle sclerosis, constipation, indigestion, allergies, fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea, flatulence, and bloating.
The process of colonics is easy. One does not need to have any special preparation before going through this method of colon cleansing. Before the procedure starts, your therapist will ask you a few questions about your medical history and your lifestyle. This will give the therapist a general picture of what to expect. As the process starts, you will be asked to lie on your side, as warm water is pumped into your bowel through a sterilized tube inserted into your rectum. This may sound a bit awkward, but think of it this way, it’s for your health. Going back, the water goes around softening impacted feces that surrounds the walls of your colon. The waste product is then flushed out through the tube. For some specific conditions, herbal preparations are used accompanied by implants of lactobacillus acidophilud. This is to assure the normalization of the bowel.
Roughly after 10 minutes, the therapist will make you lie on your back and massages your abdomen to help the process along. The whole process takes around 40 to 45 minutes. It is advised not to have large meal, and not to drink lots of water after going through with this procedure.
After the treatment is finished, your therapist might give you some probiotics that has beneficial bacteria for your digestive system to stay healthy. You can have the option to take this probiotic as a tablet, or to insert it into your rectum. I highly suggest using the tablet form.
Aside from the proven health claims attached to colonics, there are also some anecdotal evidence that suggests that colon therapy may be useful for a number of ailments including indigestion, gas, headaches, joint problems, allergies, asthma, skin problems, and even toxicity from drugs, alcohol, and smoking.
The downside of using colonics is that this process does not come cheap. One session is around the area of $75. But if you think about it, it is a small price to pay to keep our body healthy. By maintaining the health of our colons, we maintain the health of our whole body.
